Why people hack your account easily and why?

In today’s world, social media accounts are crucial for personal as well as business needs whether it’s in the form of running and managing your social media business pages, Youtube channel or anything else.

It’s not surprising that every year thousands of people’s social media accounts get hacked all the time and they lose all of their hard-earned followers.

No one wants to lose their social media account followers, friends and family communication because there is some personal communication between friends, family, and it takes hard work to get followers on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or gain subscribers on Youtube.

But the question is: How to protect your social media accounts from hackers?

In this article, I’m going to give you a few tips on how you can make it extremely hard for hackers to hack your account.

1. Create Strong Password

According to Thytoctic, 80% of cyber security attacks are because of a weak or stolen password.

That’s why choosing a strong password is advice we all constantly see online even when you’re creating your account on almost any website you’ll see a suggestion to create a strong password.

Here’s how to create a strong password:Your password consists of at least six characters.
Combination of numbers, symbols, and letters (@, #, $, %, etc.).
It contains letters in both lowercase and uppercase.
For example: ePIc~dS*)8$+V

But these types of passwords are hard to remember.

So what’s the solution?

The easiest solution is to write it in a physical book or use a trusted password manager such as LastPass, Dashlane or any other trusted one.

However, I personally use strong passwords that I can remember myself by using terms like my name or favorite car.

For example, my name is Faizah Jamal, so I create a strong password around that like “FaiZaH17%&jAmaL*”My first words contain uppercase and lowercase that is my name.
Then 17 is my birth date but adding with %.
But I decide to add with my second name by symbols of & and ended with *.
That’s easy to remember for me, and this is a strong password

2. Don’t Click On Strange Links

You may receive a link from someone saying go there and earn income, or get free followers fast something like that and chances are those links may be a phishing link.

In case you don’t know what a phishing attack, in short, is it’s a hacking attempt where a someone sends you a message via chat or your email that contains an attachment or a hyperlink.

The hacker goal with these types of links is to trick you by visiting you to a website masquerading as something legitimate like a dummy Facebook looking page and once you enter your confidential data, your information is sent to the hacker.

Phishing is basic as well as a most common attack because anyone with basic hacking knowledge can create a phishing link and hack your account.

So be careful when clicking on strange links.

3. Use Two-Factor Authentication

Enabling two-factor authentication also known as 2FA is one of the best and most secure way to protect your account.

I said it’s the most secure way to protect your account because even if someone knows your account password, they have to input a PIN as well before granted access.

Don’t access personal or financial data with public Wi-Fi.

This may seem like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised how many people check their bank accounts or make purchases with a credit card while using public Wi-Fi. It’s best to do those things on a secure connection.

4. Turn off anything you don’t need.

Hackers can use certain features on your phone to get at your information, location or connection. So, instead of keeping your GPS, wireless connection and geo-tracking on all the time, just turn them on when you need them.

5. Be Careful When Using Third-Party Applications

How often do you see “Log in with Facebook” or “Log in with Google” when you are in the process of creating a new account?

Almost all of the time because it has become standard practice and convenient for users to get started.

But remember, you have to research before using any apps or websites that require login with these two options or any other social login option.

Not just to keep your social media account secure but for anything like a payment service such as Payoneer, it’s your responsibility to research whether is Payoneer safe or not so, later on, you don’t have any regrets.

A trusted and safe app or website would never ask you to put your Facebook login directly instead you’ll see a “Login/Signup/Continue with Facebook or Google” button.

6. Always Use Email Instead of Phone Number

If you’re using a phone as a primary address to log in your social media accounts then I recommend not using a phone number.

Instead, use an email address, but why?

Let me tell you a quick story of mine.

When I started using the internet and created my new social account, I used my phone number as a primary and recovery option for my Facebook account.

One day one of my cousin came to my house and my phone was lying on the bed, he then requested a recovery password of my Facebook account from his smartphone.

Sometimes you can’t protect your mobile device.

He did just for fun but that day I realized that I’ll never use my phone number again as the primary address to login.

While on the other hand if you use an email address instead of a phone, no one can grant access to your recovery code because login into your mail account requires a password.

I hope you get the idea so never use a phone number instead use your email address.

7. Change Your Password Regularly

Changing your password regularly adds an extra layer in the security of your account because it helps in preventing constant access, use of saved passwords, limits access gained by keystroke loggers and breaches to multiple accounts.

It doesn’t mean that you change your password every day or a week but if you detect unusual activity from your account or when a social site you have an account for is compromised in a data breach.

8. Create An Exclusive Email For Social Media

Creating and using an exclusive email for social media accounts helps in a situation when sadly your accounts get hacked so at least the hackers won’t have access to all of the other valuable information about you.

Conclusion

Using social media is necessary for our daily life especially in this day and age.

Many of us use social media not just for communication but to handle our online business and for the benefits of social media marketing.
