Job description:
First Quantum Minerals is one of the world's biggest mining companies, employing over 20,000 people.
Ravensthorpe Nickel Operation is our flagship operation in Australia. Located on the beautiful south coast of Western Australia, we are just a short commute from the coastal community of Hopetoun. As a major nickel producer and exporter, we aim to ship up to 30,000 tonnes of nickel concentrate each year via Esperance Port.
Working an 8:6 roster and reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Mechanical Boilermaker will be responsible for both preventative and corrective maintenance, emergency and refurbishment work at the Ravensthorpe Nickel Operation. This role is responsible for maximising availability and integrity of the plant in order to meet production targets.
The equipment is typical of a hydrometallurgical process plant. The process plant areas consists of:
A Beneficiation circuit, consisting of crushers and grinding mills with associated support systems and process circuits including conveying systems, vibrating screens, centrifugal and P.D pumps, pipework and cyclones, various sized tankage with agitation.
A Leach circuit consisting of High Pressure Acid Leach Trains which include autoclaves and associated support systems, HP vessels, HP centrifugal and P.D. pumps and pipework also an Atmospheric Leach circuit with associated centrifugal pumps, pipework and various sized tankage with agitation.
A Hydro circuit with associated centrifugal pumps, pipework and various sized tankage with agitation, pressure and vacuum filters including associated support systems.
A Utilities plant which includes a Sulphuric Acid plant, steam turbines and diesel generators for power generation, desalination plant, and air compressors.
Key Accountabilities
Performing all plant maintenance tasks in a safe, timely and high quality, preventing any rework
Being a self-starter and able to work both autonomously and as part of a team
Demonstrating a commitment to work place safety and the safety of your co-workers
Being accurate, methodical, practical and safety-conscious when installing and maintaining mechanical equipment.
Assisting new employees in proper work procedures and practices.
Ensure that you conduct yourself with the utmost respect for the company and all fellow employees at all times.
Assisting in the proactive identification of repair and maintenance works
Ensuring all completed work orders are closed out with accurate time confirmations
Ensuring compliance to work order attachments and documents such as JHA’s, CSRA’s, SWI’s, etc. This includes the updating of any of these documents to ensure they are kept relevant and reflect best practices
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
The Ravensthorpe Nickle Operation is a complex and challenging operation. The successful candidates will have proven experience working with Mechanical process production machinery including conveyors, skirts, chutes, crushers, liners, feeders, reclaimers, mills, screens, dredges, pumps and hydraulics. In addition to this we are also looking for candidates that have;
Minimum 3 years of experience in nickel/ gold/ copper or similar mining industries
Qualified Boilermaker or Fabrication Trade certificate with at least 3 years post trade experience
High Pressure and acid leaching experience or understanding
Understanding of preventive and corrective maintenance and an understanding of both production and maintenance strategies for large-scale, continuous operating mineral processing plants.
Hold Current WA driver’s license
Possess VALID WAH, CSE and
EWP, HR license, CN (Crane), Rigging and Dogging competencies are desirable
